With this update, we're improving check-in notification settings to help you keep up with the people you care most about. Head to your settings from the profile tab to try them out!

✓ Choose "ALWAYS" for close friends and family you always want to keep up with. You'll get notifications for all their check-ins, no matter where they are in the world.

✓ Choose "NEARBY" for friends you'd like to hear about from time to time. We'll only notify you when they're close by.

✓ Choose "OFF" for those acquaintances you don't really want updates from. And that bike messenger friend who checks in at every spot on his route.

When you're looking for a place to go, a recommendation from a friend is way more useful than a long review from a stranger. In this version, we made it even easier to add friends. So you don't have to call all your local buddies when you want to remember the name of that amazing Chinese restaurant that somebody mentioned a few weeks back (It was Fu Run! Get the lamb chops and caramelized taro cubes!).

To find and invite friends on Foursquare, just go to your settings on your profile tab and tap "Find Friends."

Foursquare helps you make the most of where you are, and this update is all about finding the best place to go and making your visit more interesting and fun. A cornucopia of wonderful updates awaits you:

★ Decide where to go, or what to do when you’re already there.
✓ If you're looking for a place to go, you'll now see the most important stuff up top when you tap through, like the rating, address, hours, menu, and phone number.
✓ If you're already checked in, you'll see things like who else is there and popular tips (to make sure you order right).
✓ We also added big, swipeable photos at the top to help you get a sense of what it’s like.

★ Every time you check in, you’ll learn something interesting.
People love points, great tips, and other nuggets of information. So we’ve simplified the experience after you check in to just show you one important takeaway. ‘Seven weeks in a row going to the gym,’ ‘a great off-the-menu burger you have to order,’ or ‘your 20th time hanging out with your friend Charles.’ Foursquare will show you the most interesting highlight from your visit.

Based on all the great #allnew4sq feedback, you can once again see just check-ins from nearby friends. Just drag down when you’re on the friends tab to switch between views. We’ve also made a ton of small tweaks and bug fixes under the hood to make things faster and more intuitive, like the ability to easily add photos to a place from the gallery. Enjoy!
