visCards is an aid for the production and use of PECS cards (picture cards) for communication.
Primarily aimed at people on the autistic spectrum (I have an autistic son). However a few of my friends use this app to create their PECS / picture / flash cards for their children as a word learning aid (and even just to label items around the house).
I wrote this app for my own use and a number of people suggested I extend it and make it publicly available which I have now done. So what does it do?
- The application includes a graphical activity timer to give a visual timer of an activity duration and time remaining.
- The ability to create and print PECS cards (in a variety of sizes) - I find this very useful for schedules around the house. I often print to magnetic paper or laminate cards to create schedules.
- The ability to create schedules on the device when your out and about.
Images can be sourced from a central library, added using the device camera, or my accessing images on the device already. When creating a PECS card the image can be cropped to size.
Always open to new suggestions to improve the application, as what works for me might not be perfect for everyone else.
On a side note, 50% of all the proceeds will go to a charity my son's school has setup to aid people with learning disabilities. Its a fantastic charity teaching kids to cook, play and work - they have a charity shop.
