Warning: Not currently working with OS X El Capitan
Be advised this app is not currently working on OS X El Capitan. I will change this review when a fix is applied.
does not run in El Capitan
Since upgrading to OSX 10.11, I get a message sayign that it has not been upgraded to work with the current OS.
Yosemite and version 1.10 of EchoHam. Simply won’t connect…to anything. EchoLink works fine on my Windows VM on the same network (from the same Mac). Ditto for my iPhone and iPad. Ran a Google search for potential solutions and found several, all of which are more time and effort than they’re worth…ain’t nobody got time for that. Should also point out that many of the cool features available in the PC version are missing here. So the Windows version has more features and “just works”. The OS X version lacks important features and requires significant effort to get it going? How’s that for role reversal? EchoHam no longer on my Mac. Hope others have better luck.
KC3CDU’s review of Echoham
This app has a lot to be desired. For example, on windows there's an option called tools. On Mac, we do not have this option. As a result, we miss out on a lot of key benefits and features that Windows has that Mac does not. While I find this a great piece of software, I do believe that there is a lot more to be desired. Mac operators of echo link need the same things as windows operators. Especially when we Mac operators wish to create a Symplex node or repeater node. SYSOP. Because we are on Mac, we do not receive this benefit of the tools menu. I find this to be a major drawback from the application and an overall pain. I should not have to install a virtual machine on my Mac just to run the application. I'm a Mac user, not a Windows user. Over all, it is an app that has a lot more to be desired, however noting as far as it has come, I must congratulate the developers of this application. I just pray that as an amateur radio operator, they will take my advice. We Mac users need a tools menu. Please add this in a later update. Thank you, good day, and God bless you.
Yay! It doesn’t Crash anymore!
App is now useful, as it does not crash when attempting to connect to anything. Was hoping for some new slickness in the UI, but, for now, function over form will do.
