WAY too complex and unclear, with no support. I gave up. Chimport worked fantastically for me.
Does what I needed and easy to use.
I wanted to take the contacts from my Address book and look at them in a list view in Numbers. In the past I would use Bento, but since FileMaker no longer sells Bento, I was looking for another solution. Exporter for Address Book is simple to use and does exactly what I was looking for! I was able to open the Exported (CSV) in Numbers. I wish it would remember what format I Exported last, and keep that as the default. Don’t think there is a way to do that in this version.
Does what I need
I needed a way to export my contacts to create a mail list and it did that. Nothing fancy.
Could be great
If the developer provides a good fix for the things listed here, I will revise this review. I want to like this app because of the clean interface that could be very intuitive, but it certainly needs work. I needed this app to be able to export a group of contacts to an importable format for Microsoft Outlook. The app opens, asks for permission to access my mac contacts, and then shows a nice, clean interface for choosing the contacts to export. The most intuitive thing for this me was to just grab a group from the list into the “Contacts to Export” window. I chose “Next” at the bottom of the window (allthouth a cmd-E shortcut would have been nice). The next window is a field chooser which is simple enough to work once I understood it. I was just going to export it “as-is” and that brings a lot of empty fields in my case. After deleting all the unwanted fields, I clicked “next” again, and I could choose my file type. I went with the default of an “Excel” format first. It would not import into Outlook. I then tried it as a CSV and it would not import into Outlook. I then tried to go back, open with Numbers, delete unused columns, export to CSV and to Excel for experimentation sake, and attempted to import into Outlook. I also attempted to select all the contacts in the group and drag the individual names over for export…still testing on that one.All this to say that while I might have been doing something wrong, it should have been much easier. Things that would be nice…Simple option to just skip empty fieldsExport that just works for groups (since I think a single contact exports just fine from Contacts)Better user manual (nothing about exporting a group of contacts for Outlook)
