Stable, reliable, always works as it should
I keep going back and forth, using this and Onsong. Songbook doesn’t have a lot of the features of Onsong but, Songbook always works unlike Onsong. I really needed a way to easily sync songs with my bandmate and while this isn’t perfect I can be assured my songs are there and haven’t been wiped out. Onsong has great features and capablities but, with every IOS upgrade I’m having to redo my Onsong music list. Songbook is great to use on the Macbook for editing then sync to iPad. I’m looking forward to being able to sync my itunes backtracks to my Songbook pages.
ChordPro Buddy is better!
This is a very basic ChordPro Editor. It allows you to import or create ChordPro formatted songsheets, which is great, but it is extremely limited in terms of features, especially in terms of formatting your songs. You can’t change the font type or size of the font (seriously!) The chords are in Comic Sans in blue and that can’t be changed either. The chorus of your song is marked by a black highlight with white text reading “Chorus” and a black line that runs down the left margin for the duration of your chorus. It’s a clever way of making the chorus stand out on a page, but it’s really, really ugly and, you guessed it, you can’t change the color - you can turn it off, but you can’t alter it in anyway. You can highlight a portion of your lyrics, but only in yellow. You can change the size of the fonts on the screen (but not the font type or color) when you are working on them, but when you print them they are always the same small size. I xerox my songsheets for my class so the blue chords come out as grey and are smaller (10pt) than the lyric font so they are very hard to read… not to mention they are in the ugliest font known to humans! I work mostly with seniors and children and the font size that this app defaults to for lyrics is way too small (11pt) for them. If you import your songs into the Songbook app for iPad you can change the size of the fonts there, but if you export them as PDFs to import into ForScore or Unreal Books you are stuck with the small font and tiny blue chords. The main reason I bought this app over ChordPro Buddy, which is half the price, is that this one allows you to change the chords from guitar to ukulele, and since I play and teach both that feature is essential for me, but ChordPro Buddy is such a better app! It lets me format my songs they way I chose. I can change the font, size, color of lyrics and chords, change the spacing between the chords and lyrics, and indent and bold the chorus… basically, anything you can do to customize text in a word processing app you can do in ChordPro Buddy. This seems pretty basic, but for some reason you can’t change anything in Songbook. Unfortunately for me since ChordPro Buddy doesn’t support ukulele chords, I had to buy both of these apps... I use ChordPro Buddy to do all of my editing. When I finish a song I import the finished ChordPro “code” into Songbook ChordPro to generate ukulele chords. Then I print out the finished songs from both apps as PDFs. Then I open them both in Photoshop and cut and paste the chords from Songbook ChordPro into the ChordPro Buddy version and save as a PDF. Ridiculous! ChordPro Buddy is a cheaper, much more fully-developed app with vastly more features than this one, but if you need uke chords - this is your only choice. If you only use guitar chords don’t even bother with this underdeveloped little app.
As a worship leader, I’m constantly toting around songbooks and folders full of sheet music and chord/lyric charts, making trips to the copier to make sure all of my accompaniment is playing the same thing…that is until I got this app, and the corresponding SongBook app on iOS…I have used others such as OnSong but the user interface was clunky and tedious. SongBook was a breath of fresh air…very easy to create a new song, and with the easily inserted and hot-key html commands, you can edit a song in no time. Then via dropbox share it to another device or app…I reccomend this to anyone looking to lose the manilla folders and spiral bound music they’ve been lugging around!
My Dream Come True!
This app is exactly what I was looking for. My old binders were getting too big and falling apart at the seams. Now I can have everything on my computer or my iPad or iPhone, and using Dropbox, all songs are automatically synconized on all of my devices. This app has very been thought out and there's been an incredible attention to detail.Don't forget to check out the iOS versions of these apps. They work beautifully, and you can even link two devices and display the same song, scrolling at the same speed. Genius!
