Below is our policy for citing App Annie data in the public domain (including by customers, partners and media outlets). All use of such data must be in accordance with this policy and any applicable subscription to App Annie Intelligence. This policy does not apply to any content or data provided by App Annie’s partners (e.g., IDC); all such data is subject to the respective partner’s policies.

Types of App Annie data that can be published

 

Public Data Points

You may publish App Annie data that has been put into the public domain by an authorized party, as outlined in this policy. These include data from App Annie Store Stats, the App Annie blog, App Annie press releases, articles in the media that cite App Annie data, and App Annie social media posts.

Nonpublic Data Points

App Annie data not put into the public domain as explained above may not be published unless: (1) you have obtained explicit approval from App Annie Corporate Communications (press@appannie.com) or (2) explicitly allowed in your subscription to App Annie Intelligence. Guidance for publication of nonpublic data derived from App Annie Intelligence is provided herein for reference only and should not be construed as explicit approval in the absence of the foregoing.

Metrics

In general, you may publish rankings or ranking-related metrics, provided that the above conditions have been met.

Downloads and Revenues

You may not publish App Annie’s estimates of absolute downloads or absolute revenue or any metrics based on downloads or revenues, whether they are for one or for an aggregation of apps, publishers, categories or app stores. For the avoidance of doubt, you may not publish an individual app’s or publisher’s indexed downloads, indexed revenue, revenue-to-download ratios, or market share.

Entire reports

App Annie blog posts, reports, and slide decks are protected by copyright and may not be republished in their entirety. If you want to publish more than one-quarter of the content from a given App Annie report, you must obtain prior approval from App Annie as outlined above.

How to cite App Annie data or reports

 

Source

When publishing App Annie data, you must clearly indicate the source as App Annie Index (http://www.appannie.com/indexes/all-stores/rank/overall/ or http://blog.appannie.com/category/app-annie-index/), App Annie Store Stats (http://www.appannie.com/top/), or the specific App Annie blog post or report, as appropriate. You must include the appropriate App Annie URL. If you are citing App Annie social media posts, please provide a link or abbreviated link to that source. If you are citing cumulative installs for a Google Play app based on the App Annie Store Stats App Details page, then the source would be App Annie Store Stats. If you cite App Annie data together with other data, including your own, you must indicate clearly which data points came from which source.

When citing App Annie rankings, you must clearly indicate the full context, including the following, as appropriate: store, geography, time period (including year), category, device, and measure (e.g., revenue, downloads, free downloads, paid downloads). For example, Store Stats iOS app rankings must be labeled as either iPhone or iPad. Store Stats app download rankings must be labeled as either free or paid. All Store Stats rankings must be labeled with the specific day or hour.

Custom Categories

If rankings are based on a custom category (e.g., television apps) rather than a standard category already defined by the app store, then you must footnote that category definition clearly. Furthermore, the custom list of apps must be made available to the public, whether in the report appendix or other public location clearly referenced in the report. For example, if you are creating custom rankings based on Store Stats data, then the source for the custom rankings should not be App Annie Store Stats but: "Source: Rankings calculated by [your company name] based on App Annie Store Stats data using a custom category of X [e.g., television] apps."

Screenshots

If you are publishing screenshots of App Annie tables, charts, or other content that are in the public domain, then the App Annie logo must be clearly visible in the screenshots.

Quotes

When quoting App Annie content or analyses that are available in the public domain, quotes should be used in full context and preserve the original intended meaning. The source should be the specific App Annie blog post, report, or press release along with the appropriate App Annie URL. For App Annie commentary that has not already been put in the public domain, you may quote only official company spokespersons with their approval. Such officials include: members of the executive team, the VP of Global Corporate Communications, and Business Development leaders at the VP level or higher.

Publisher Rankings

Publisher rankings must be determined based on the overall parent company publishing the apps, not the individual publisher accounts in the app store. For example, if a company publishes apps through five different publisher accounts in one app store, then those five accounts must be aggregated when determining publisher rankings for that app store.

Custom Categories

If rankings are based on a custom category (e.g., television apps) rather than a standard category already defined by the app store, then you must footnote that category definition clearly.
