Lesson 5

Discover: Conclusion

The mobile platform has changed how (and where) businesses operate, as some of today’s leading businesses exist only on mobile. Uber and Snapchat, for example, are valued at billions of dollars and both operate only as apps.

Whether you’re looking to build the next disruptive app or you’re a business that’s been around for decades, the app economy is for everyone. Pretty soon, nearly half of the world’s population will own a smartphone and be actively using apps, possibly including yours.

In mature markets like the US and China, mobile businesses are reaching record-breaking revenue estimates in the app stores. Emerging markets like India, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil are starting to contribute a more significant share of the overall revenue.

Clearly, mobile is now the first screen for many people worldwide, and app usage is surging virtually everywhere. This means that as an app developer or advertiser, you have an international audience waiting to meet your unique offering. This also means there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy. You’ll need to take into account the region you’re targeting and the industry you’re entering as well as your users’ age and behaviors.

No matter what business you’re in, no matter where, no matter who your customers are, your business can be strengthened by mobile. All it takes is great planning and a commitment to sustained iteration and evolution.

Now that you have a lay of the land, it’s time to dive into what really matters — thinking through the strategy that will make your app a success.
