Need to Stand Corrected - This Application is Awesome!
I downloaded this application yesterday and almost immediately became frustrated as the application couldn’t find the AwakenHelper. Woke up this morning and did some searching to find the AwakenHelper download on the application website but was soon once again totally frustrated as now the application was requesting the location of the iTunes Library.xml file. I sent an email to the developer who was able to work with me to figure out what was not happening. The new iTunes needs the “Share iTunes Library XML with other applications” box (via Advanced tab) checked in order to generate the required XML file. It then becomes a simple matter of quitting iTunes and linking Awaken with the newly created XML file (found in Users/Music/iTunes). It works! Nice application and a most awesomely responsive developer.!
A Decent Alarm App… That Needs Some Refining
I like this app a lot. It was actually my first purchase after switching from Windows to Mac (The Windows Store is woefully underpopulated with good alarm apps). After upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks I noticed that the animations started to lag badly for whatever reason, and sometimes it just wouldn’t work… at all. That coupled with a lack of meaningful updates led to me using it a lot less, which is why I’m glad to see this update.v0.6 Is a decent update, but isn’t worthy of its shiny new icon. I expected to see some kind of redesign, and was crossing my fingers that there would be a Notification Center companion for alarms (dropped the ball on that one, guys), but unfortunately it’s just the same program with a few fixes and a (very, very slightly) re-defined interface. It’s look is not exactly in-line with the design of the rest of system, but what really mucks it all up for me is that the animations are still laggy! Why? That seems like a problem that could and should have been addressed with this new release! No other app is having this issue! I will say that the new fullscreen mode is nice, very nice indeed, but that’s about it.It’s still a useful program, but this new update just isn’t doing it for me. I’ll continue to use it out of necessity, but I hope to see some thoughtful updates in the future.
Doesn’t work — asks for the location of AwakenHelperPlus, it’s nice to finally get Retina support, but the application itself is a little bit dated with glossy iOS1 styled buttons. I hope it’s comming. :)
When this app works, it does it beautifully. It’s great to weak up to your favorite iTunes playlist or radio station. The problem is that it doesn’t work half of the time. Though I downloaded the Awaken Helper add on, sometimes the alarm just won’t go off, for no apparent reason. Updates don’t keep up with changes in iTunes, just recently you are unable to select a single track. I wish there was an app that does what this one is supposed to do, reliably.
Great for music lovers
A very good product. Easy to use and set up. It even works in sleep mode. For MacBook users just keep lid open. The only drawback with this app is that it has to be open/running for the alarm to work.
