Good, But Still Needs Work
While this is a good effort and works as advertised it does have a few things that NEED to corrected.1. On my very first test (with the questions being chosen at random using test pool 3), three questions were presented to me twice during that test. You should NEVER have the same question asked twice in a single test. I have done enough programming to know that being able to prevent duplicates is not difficult to do. This is something I would have had implemented before I ever let the program see the light of day.2. There were three different questions where the answers were too long for the box, which caused part of the answer to be coverd up. The FCC loves to make the difference between a right or wrong answer dependent upon ONE word being right or wrong. So obscuring even one word can mean the difference between whether you choose that answer or not. Instead of using a Text Entry Field, the program should be using a Static Text gadget to display the answers so that there is no bounding box to obscure long answers.3. I like the "show correct answer when selected" feature. But when I have that selected, and I first select a wrong answer and then select the right answer, the right answer gets counted in the final test score. I disagree with this. If I am supposed to get an idea of how well I'm doing I need it to score my FIRST selected answer so that I get an accurate score.Other than those three exceptions, the program performs quite well and does what it's supposed to do.
Looking forward to my Technician test!
This is a great little app. Haven't even opened the CD in the ARRL book I got today (I'm on chapter 3) and with this app, I may not bother with the CD (says it's for Windows anyway).Only thing I will point out is that in "random" mode, it often gives the same question more than once in a 35-question exam.Passed my first "pre-test" which isn't surprising since most of the material is closely related to my job (military Signal officer). Looking forward to receiving my first calls! Thanks for the app! If you get a chance, would love a Morse/CW trainer app :-)
Great App. Like to see More enhancements
Very fast and user friendly! An enhancement I would like to see is the ability to lock the wrong answer when showing that the correct answer has been selected. Example: if I select B as the answer and it is wrong indicate that it is wrong and store it as wrong for the final score. At the same time allow the correct answer to be identified when selected. This will give a true score of the knowledge base while allowing the person to explore for the correct answer. Right now you only display the corrected score.Keep up the good work! Great App in the works. Will you have a tool to update the question pools or will that just be an app upgrade?
Good, but needs a few fixes...
Okay, so this is 20 minutes after downloading and playing with it... but just a couple of notes for those wanting to get it. It has the Element 2/3/4 tests and you can take them just as the description says. However, if an answer is longer than the box drawn, it doesn't wrap text and you miss the end of the answer. Also, at least one question on the Element 2 pool has really messed up answers. The question is in the B answer box for example. Looks like a formatting issue somewhere. All in all though, it gets the job done. Can't wait for the update!
