As the mobile gaming industry prepares to gather in Seattle for next week’s conference we take a look at Games’ bright future in apps.
Casual Connect is one of the world’s leading mobile gaming conferences, and this year the industry’s top developers, publishers, distributors and others will gather in Seattle from August 1-3 for the US stop. The event will feature 250 speakers over nine tracks representing the leaders in the next generation of games, which means that of course App Annie will be there.
This year’s Casual Connect comes at yet another exciting time for mobile games. As the app economy continues to grow and mature, so does the world of mobile gaming. According to our most recent app usage report, on average we access 10 apps a day, spending two hours a day within those apps, and much of that use comes from games.
Impressively, as much as mobile gaming has become a part of daily life for millions, gaming has not hit a saturation point. In fact, it’s still expanding in all markets. For example, the top 10% of mobile gamers globally are spending more time playing games – over one hour on average per day - and the top 10% in Japan and South Korea are spending roughly three hours per day in games.
This usage has added up to a booming gaming economy as the lion’s share of app store revenue continues to come from gaming. Games continue to represent the majority of app store monetization growth, which is forecast to more than double over the next four years.
