I wish I never wasted my money on this one. This is one of the most horrible chess interfaces I've ever played with. Graphics are simply at an unacceptable level. controls are also awful, it's always a challenge trying to move a piece. Play online? Against who? Ghosts? A chess app alternative for Chessmaster or Fritz, what was i thinking?
Just bought this to see if it is better than what the reviews said
I started playing and noticed immediately that when I changed the size of the board with my trackpad, the music would distort, as if I were listening to a record playing and accidentally bumped it. This is annoying. It was so annoying that I turned the music all the way down. There is also difficulty in navigating the pieces. Sometimes the pieces would go to the wrong square because I couldn't finesse them into the right one. This was annoying too becuase there didn't seem to be a way to recall the piece, i.e., take one's move back. The most annoying experience while playing, however, occurred when I was about to win the game, and allowed the oppenents pawn to queen itself. This resulted in the whole game freezing, and I had to quit. This was my very first experience playing the game, and it tells me a lot. This is an classic experience of "buyers regret."
Not worth the cost
This app has lots of issues. It locks up all the time. The board looks nice, but it will not scale properly. I have a 27 inch iMac and the game is either a tiny little window or it looks terrible when blown up to full screen. I would not recommend this application at all.
Great game! Weird Sounds.
As far as the Great game of Chess is concerned this is a very good software rendition. Its not perfect but its really good.I read the reviews and didn't buy it for two months because it sounded so bad. I finally downloaded the free trial from the bakno website, and i was pleasantly surprised to find such a good game. I would suggest getting the free trial because it convinced me.Pros. It looks and feels very smooth. AI is set right according to the three settings, although I would like to see 5 or 6 diff settings for people caught in the middle of two settings. The computer thinks quickly. (I hate waiting on a computer) The graphics doesn't lag at all when moving pieces around.all in all a Very well done chess game.Cons. The music is corny and over done but I shut it off and opened Itunes, and the problem was solved.Like I said only three challenge settings. The pieces sound like mini suction cups instead of wood or granite. There is no bluetooth setting for two player games, its all online or local, but who wants to pass a computer back and forth. But all the cons can be fixed with a sound selection button to make it sound like granite or wood or whatever suits your taste. Maybe a lag slider for the timer so the player can select the speed in which the computer moves so at the end of the game it doesnt say player 15:00 minutes, computer 1:00 minute. And last bluetooth gameplay. It was definitely worth my money. Go download the free trial if you don't believe me.
I thought I would give this game a try, seeing as it look nice in the preview pics. However, I was very disapointed. The graphics are terrible, and the game uses way more processing power than it needs to. The whole system UI seems to lag when playing in windowed mode. I would stay away from this game! The $0.99 EG Chess game is ten fold better than this one. Apple should pull this game from the App Store.
