Superb Lovecraftian puzzle game
I got this because I’m an H P Lovecraft fan, so this is my first ever hidden object/puzzle game. Got to say, I’m hooked! The game looks and works great, with just enough dramatisation to keep the story clear without getting in the way of the hidden object and other puzzles. Atmospherics are great, including the perpetual rain outdoors and the authentic look of a 1920s fishing village, albeit with a slight art deco twist. The Lovecraftian vibe is a bit more subtle here compared to the Cerasus Media’s ‘Mountains of Madness’ game (which tracked the source material rather closely). That's presumably to make ’Soul Keeper' work as an adventure game, so rather than overtly following the ‘Case of Charles Dexter Ward’ story, the player tries to stop Joseph Curwen stealing the souls he needs to become immortal. This is the special edition version of the game and comes with a whole extra level to be played after the main game is finished, as well as a walkthrough manual and even a copy of the original HPL novella.
I enjoyed this game a lot. I thought it was a good challenge and even had to look up some walk throughs because I got stuck. That’s a testament to it’s challenge since I usually blow through these type of games in a few hours. This one was great and I look forward to more from Cerasus media. Too bad they only have a couple of more to get.
I downloaded this a while back and it’s been siting on my computer doing nothing - I don’t even remember why I downloaded it.A few days ago, I launched it in hopes of remembering why I downloaded it in the first place and immediately got addicted. I even got out of bed early so I could play some before I went to work. I haven’t done that since the day after I got my Atari 2600.The game has beautiful artwork and a wonderful soundtrack. I wish the game was longer; however, it’s well worth the $4.99.
Mac Users Beware
Only the preview is availible to play for mac users and the full version is only availible for PCs for now. Which I think is a complete and utter load of bull hooky! Why sucker mac users into an otherwise impressive search and find game if you are not going to offer the full download to them right then and there? I personally would have rather been told to play it on a PC only then have my desires stomped on like this. To be fair, the site it is on says a Mac version is coming soon, but the game is not good enough to wait for. Decent game but sorely disappointed. Shame on you Cerasusmedia. Take my advice. If you want a game similar to this, play the Mystery Case Files games. At least they're availible for both versions.
Good game while it lasts
I bought this game and it was so short I thought there had to be some sort of mistake, the designers sure saw me coming. I guess I was one of those suckers that are born every minute.
